Our Order
Life has no
pleasure higher or nobler than that of friendship
Welcome to our Order of the Royal
Antediluvian order of Buffaloes under the Grand Lodge of England.
The Order [the R.A.O.B.] dates its Origin, with reasonable accuracy and proof,
to the year 1822 in London, England.
The Initials, G.L.E., are important,
because there are many Banners [sections] of the R.A.O.B. operating in Australia
and throughout the world. For instance, in Queensland there is one other, the
Grand Australasian Banner. A brother does not realise that there are other
Banners of the Order where he joins, As far as he is concerned, he has joined
the Buffs..
Basically, the
principles of all Banners
are the same, ie, to defend the
weak, to help the unfortunate, and to render assistance to those who are
suffering or in need, The maxim: "to give rather than receive", is akin to all
Banners; likewise the so-called secrets, [signs, salutations and passwords]
vary only slightly.
The G.L.E. Banner in Queensland is
one which is noted for its charitable work, both within the Order and to Worthy
outside projects.
The Order [G.L.Q. G.L.E.] also maintains
The Buffalo Memorial Homes for the Aged.
The order, through its Lodges, has
always been to the fore-front in coming to the assistance of those in need [not
only the needs of members]. Appeals, in cases of national disaster, etc.,
always find lodges of the R.A.O.B. first on the list with donations, Likewise,
our Rules permit and encourage assistance to genuine cases of hardship among
members.
Though the Orders membership is confined to males, most Lodges conduct regular
social functions at which the wives and families of members are invited to enjoy
the company of other families. These types of get-togethers do much to
strengthen the ties between lodge members.
The Order can give so much,
particularly in friendship, companionship, a sense of achievement, and the
desire to do good. It can only do these things with co-operation of members, and
that is only possible by regular attendances...
The future of the Order centres around a number of factors; attendances,
participation, advancement to Higher Degrees, and above all, a willingness to
serve..........
Service to
others is our foundation principle
If you find you hold the same principles that
the order stands for, and are interested in becoming a member, Please contact
the
Grand Secretary for a lodge in your area.
